University of Missouri researchers analyze Columbia Police disparities

The Columbia Police Department reports vehicle stops data to the Missouri Attorney General s Office. Columbia Police Chief Geoff Jones commissioned a study from University of Missouri researchers to look at the department s vehicle stops data and provide suggestions on how it can address disparities. The MU report, looking at stop data from 2017-19, was presented to the police last week, Jones said Monday. The department is reviewing the findings, he said. The independent report was crafted by researchers with the university s sociology department, Truman School of Public Affairs, the School of Social Work, and Center for Applied Research and Engagement Systems.
