ST. CLOUD An AmeriCorps program created to ease the community impact of COVID-19 is seeking twice as many members this year, and will be focused on giving tutoring support to K-12 students over the summer.
The Minnesota AmeriCorps Emergency Response Initiative launched during the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic and sent over 300 volunteers to aid organizations including St. Cloud-based Catholic Charities Emergency Services and Place of Hope.
This year, nearly a dozen St. Cloud-area organizations and schools will get support through the emergency response initiative, said Senior Program Manager Katelyn Dokken. We were able to really expand this year and hone in on our focus a little bit more, Dokken said. We ll be training all of our emergency response members on different tutoring strategies for kids, pre-K through fifth grade, and sixth through 12th grade.
