obama white house is the most afraid of. i think that s actually a ploy. i don t believe a word of it. the question is is today s republican party prepared for a moderate? i think this is not the cycle for it, particularly if you look at the midterm election of last year. it wants a true blue conservative, a constitutionalist of sorts. i m not sure that he will be the one. but he is an accomplished governor and a manager. i think that will help him a lot. bill: last question. if your assessment is accurate then, mitt romney doesn t fit that either because is he not a traditional conservative man. he is not. he is not as far to the left as huntsman will position himself and also romney has a track record. he went through the cycle once. he did get some conservative support. and he is extremely organized and, also, in this cycle, he could present himself as the kind of moderate manager with
a washington hotel. wow. 30 years ago today if you can believe it, at tempted assassination of president ronald reagan. where were you, pat? as i recall, i was home, you know, jim brady was shot there along with the president. and david gergen and i were in the finals to get the press secretary job that jim brady won and they were in there just two months and, of course, he was the one most gravely wounded there. he s never fully recovered from that. that was one of the most awful days you can recall. we were all so proud of reagan, we worked so hard for him. he was a true blue conservative, he was in there and all of a sudden you re hearing maybe he s not going to survive. i have two intersections with that story. i was playing with the daughter of ed meese and we rushed to the hospital with her parents. right. and interacted with nancy at that point. and then years later, when i was at georgetown, i worked at st. elizabeth s and sat with
it does, even more. i ve had people tell me they like the way i vote, but it s time to go. christine o donnell telling you that. i like everything about you. i m voting you out you s.o.b. does she represent what your party stands for? let s say she represents lots of the new things people are looking for. you can t give me a full-on yes, can you? there s a little bit of this and that in there. that s a good way of putting it. okay. sounds like the dinners i cook. joe, you know we got in trouble for being democrat light. there s a lot of people that would say, listen, if i m going to be represented by moderate, i m going to vote democrat. people are sending a signal. remember, it s not just about delaware. it s about sending a signal nationwide that, hey, we really do want a true blue liberal, a true blue conservative. is that true blue? i don t know. speaking of this and that,
reckless healthcare plan then i m a partisan. i have been called a lot of things and i will be glad to be called anything. but i m a fighter and that is what i am. and i have fought against my own administration when i wanted to when i thought it was necessary to do so and i will fight against this administration when i think it is necessary to do so. chris: but if i may press it. sure. it isn t what other people are saying about you. it is what you are saying about yourself. you said i never considered myself a maverick. i have considered myself a person who is a fighter. i wouldn t be around today if i wasn t a fighter. i fight for the things that i believe in and sometimes that is called a maverick. sometimes that is called a partisan and people can draw their own conclusions. i prefer great american myself. chris: running away from the maverick title because somehow it indicates you are not a true blue conservative. i fight for the things i believe in and for the people
