GATLINBURG — The Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts Souper Bowl returns for the 20th year on Thursday, Sept. 14, benefiting the United Way of Sevier County.
GATLINBURG â The new executive director of the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts is no stranger to the school.
In fact, for Trudy Hughes, Arrowmont has been part of her life since childhood and her last job, as vice president of regional advancement at East Tennessee Foundation, had her working with and learning even more about the school.
âMy first trip to Arrowmont was in 1967 with my parents. I was about to turn 7. Gatlinburg was a small little town then,â Hughes said.
Her family would come to Gatlinburg and let her stop in at the schoolâs store and buy something one of the artists made.

SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg will have a new executive director come July.
Following a national search, Trudy Hughes from Knoxville will lead the oldest craft school in Tennessee.
Hughes has been vice president of regional advancement at the East Tennessee Foundation for the past eight years. The foundation has worked to support Arrowmont and other local organizations for many years through its public charity work.
