airlines and good for the trucking businesses, but it s not good for big oil and there is a level in the oil prices where it s not good for the economy either, so you need oil prices to hold steady at a certain level for the economy to really tug forward. david: gary when you talk about oil prices a lot of people don t care whether the big oil companies are making money or not, but they have to appreciate the fact that we are now pretty much of an independent country or at least we re not as dependent on the oil sheets as we used to be because of this boom in fracking and everything because of the trump adminitration taking the regs off. what happens if they start shutting down wells? also by the way the green energy we re heading much more towards there, away from petroleum products, for energy so that s david: but again it s the boom in carbon energy that s the secret to our success recently recently. look for me the bigger picture is the worry that it s forecasting going forwa
50 years ago in 1969. the president today clearly pleased. we have some of the best economic numbers we ve ever had, and that goes a long way. reporter: the growth across industries. from retail to health care, construction to manufacturing, and transportation. trucking businesses like brenny s transportation in minnesota even stretched to find drivers. my company alone did an increase in salary this year of approximately 15%. it s still very difficult to find drivers to fill seats in those trucks. reporter: the jobs report also revealing a lag in wage increases. average earnings up just 8 cents an hour last month. economists say a record number of job openings should force employers to hike rates of pay. the hot economy also signaling what s ahead for consumers.
it because you won t have that kind of injury, so a lot of trucking businesses are out of busy, which is tough, many union drivers have slated to have their taxed and been against it and trucking companies considered large employers have to offer government mandated health insurance. you have the mandate that just doesn t work for them. forced to do things that you don t want to do today the house is voting to repeal and replace the disaster known as obamacare. we ll see what happens, it s going to be a very close vote. after we repeal and replace obamacare it s close enough because close to politics, they know it s no good, everybody knows it s no good. it s only politics because we have a great bill and i think we have a very good chance, but it s only politics. after we repeal and replace obamacare we re going to do
save that. i want to save that paragraph. but america depends on you. and you work very hard for america. many of you spend weeks away from your families doing what can sometimes be a very difficult and dangerous job, to put it mildly. but you take care of yourselves, yo look after your friends and you don t stop until the job is done. that s true. obamacare has inflicted great pain on american truckers. many of you were forced to buy health insurance on the obamacare exchanges. you experienced a crippling rise in premiums and a dramatic loss in options, and you just take a look at what s happened to the cost and it s incredible. you look at what s going on with the deductibles where they re through the roof. essentially you don t have it because hopefully you ll never have to use it because you won t have that kind of injury or sickness. so, you know the problems. and it s put a lot of the trucking businesses out of
so-called intermotor side but they had 7 million fewer miles loaded this quarter. that is a lot less. there are some problems. look at the dow jones transportation average. gregg: down 4%. compared 5% for the s&p 500. there is a little bit of disconnected here. is there uncertainty in the minds of business owners, does that mean, trucking customers therefore are not getting the kind of business they really need with capital expendituress? that is real problem. that is across the board for small businesses but you are seeing if the trucking businesses don t do well, then the people that supply them don t do as well either. economy is having problems. alcoa in fact said that trucking was the reason they are downgrading their forecast. that is the beginning of the
