erkshire East Mountain Resort to open North America’s Longest Mountain Coaster
CHARLEMONT, Mass., Oct. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ Ride the Thunderbolt! North America’s longest and most exciting Mountain Coaster is now open. Encompassing 5,450′ of mountain terrain, riders rush near exposed rocks and cliffs, dive through a diverse mountain forest and descend into Southern New England’s most exciting mountain resort.

The event was set against the beautiful backdrop of the mountains as the setting sun cast large clouds of shade over the audience. The attendees were dressed in Palm Springs casual, the men wearing Panama hats, white slacks and an occasional blazer while women dressed in elegant and fashionable dresses and chapeaus.

Jon Schaefer grew up in Charlemont, a community of nearly 1,300 that lies between Williamstown and Interstate 91. His family owns the local Berkshire East Mountain Resort, where he and his siblings, and most everyone in the hill-towns region, learned to ski. Some Schaefer family members became racers, traveling to compete on some of the world’s most daunting and magnificent alpine heights. “When you’re in a little town in New Zealand and it’s in the middle of nowhere in the South Pacific, but it’s full of fun outdoor activities and fun people in a community,” Schaefer says, “in a lot of ways it’s like what we grew up with in Western Massachusetts.”
