A psychologist said Thursday that a man accused in a mass shooting at a Palmview H-E-B in 2016 suffers from schizophrenia, has the continued potential to commit serious bodily injury to others and that if left untreated, his condition will continue to deteriorate.

We have seen an increase in both our in-patient and outpatient demand for mental health services, and I think that s directly correlated with the COVID-19 pandemic, Saenz said. Now more than ever, Saenz says there’s a critical need to reduce the stigma around mental health battles - a stigma that often prevents individuals from seeking help.

Vicente Gonzalez (D-McAllen) presented $3.7M in federal funding to a behavioral health clinic Monday morning. According to a news release, Texas Tropical Behavioral Health in Edinburg received the funds for the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Service Grant Program. Officials said the goal is for the money to help people suffering from mental health issues resulting from the coronavirus pandemic. Tropical Texas Behavioral Health CEO Terry Crocker said the money would go to all four clinics across the Valley.
