good morning to you. thank you for being with us. 6:00 a.m. in new york this morning. tuesday, july 19th. i was hearing that in parts of iowa the heat index felt like 130 yesterday. it s been brutal out there. even this morning on the east coast, it felt different. it felt hotter. we ll be covering that. we re watching that and millions are watching with a worldwide media empire hanging in the balance rupert murdoch is just hours away from facing his defining moment. in less than four hours, murdoch, his son and former top newspaper executive will appear before the british parliament. they will be asked what they knew about this phone hacking scandal that s growing wider by the day. it s threatening to take down news corp and perhaps murdoch himself. and the question is what they are going to be called upon to explain, what they re going to be compelled to explain and how that s different from being called before congress. who is going to be asking the questions today
bowling green. what s left over with tropical storm hermine starting to rain itself out. we don t expect to see a tremendous amount of flooding in arkansas and oklahoma and missouri and texas the day before. wey are seeing less in the way of moisture with this system rolling across the northern tier. this is not going to bring a ton of moisture to the fire in boulder, but it will bring gusty winds. red flag warning for gusts to 30 miles an hour or so. the humidity at about 20%. as far as what s happening tropically speaking, here s thunderstorm igor. a depression now. it weakened overnight. it will probably restrengthen and it s looking good as far as the organization goes. they will get it back to tropical storm status before the day is done. here s the forecast with the national hurricane center bringing it to hurricane status by the beginning of next week.
weather threat. canada s atlantic provinces are now dealing with the remnants of this storm. it s done graded like i said to a tropical storm status, but delivering still heavy rain, driving winds in nova scotia. at one point it was a category 4, went to a 3, then a 2, and it s pretty much broken up now, lost a lot of the steam as it was spinning northward, relatively cool waters in the atlantic ocean, but the storm still could make landfall this nova scotia where people are watching and waiting. we re beginning to get some rain, but before that, there was to rain at all. the winds certainly getting stronger. back here in the u.s. at least, people up and down the east coast dodged a bullet a lot would say, but now they re wondering what about my weekend? it s the holiday weekend. three day weekend. reynolds, how is this going to affect people not necessarily weather-wise, but there s something else they need to be watching out for. kind of indirectly.
now circled through here. what our molds want to do is skirt the coastline and go here somewhere, stays out long enough it may develop in a tropical depression, may get to tropical storm status. national hurricane center is actually putting out a hurricane hunter aircraft into the system to see what is going on. see more empty way of rain, cause flooding situation across parts of southeast. 90 in seattle today, that s the spot that saw record-breaking heat yesterday. so excessive heat warnings for the northwest, typically cool, don t have much in the way of air conditioning there in some of the older homes, 90 degrees doesn t sound hot to you and me, kyra sounds hospital. thanks, rob. check our top stories now, president obama enters the heated debate over the building of a mosque near ground zero. now, republicans are making
the southwest. look at all of the clusters of thunderstorms. the good news is the worst of it is staying offshore. if it continues to move in this direction, this could turn into a tropical depression. some of the computer models even bringing it back up to tropical storm status. we might get danielle out of this thing before you know it. we don t think it s going to have enough time to turn into a real powerful system. the bottom line is this is going to mean a lot of heavy rain, potentially flash flooding and this is the area we ll be watching. particularly the closer you are to the coast, the heavier the rain. the next handful of days, heavy amounts. it s something you might be watching. you may say to yourself, why the heck is this thing going backwards? one thing is the cold front. the other is helping to squeeze
