For the second day, a king tide has lapped at the doors of a Gold Coast surf club, as Tuesday s surging waves left a thick layer of seafoam around the building.
The huge tide has not been the only unusual weather event, with a widespread drenching dumping almost 900 millimetres in the Scenic Rim over three days and causing power outages, fallen trees and leaking roofs.
The weather office is monitoring two cyclones that are lurking around the Fiji group. The two cyclones being monitored are Tropical Cyclone Zazu which located in the North of Tonga while Tropical Cyclone Yasa has been upgraded to a category two system. Fiji Meteorological Services director Terry Atalifo said the system has gained strength over the course of the day and will intensify further as in nears Fiji. Atalifo said they are expecting the cyclone to be a category 4 by Friday. He said damaging winds can also uproot big trees and cause total damage to shallow-rooted plants and crops. Tropical Cyclone Yasa will bring continuous heavy rain over the Yasawa and Mamanuca Group by Wednesday before gradually spreading to the rest of Fiji a day later.
