WATERTOWN â The deputy and trooper turned on the street shortly after 7 p.m. June 22 and immediately noticed a crowd of more than 100 people gathered outside an apartment complex on Ohio Street in Watertown. Amid the crowd, a 15-year-old was unconscious and losing blood rapidly.
Jefferson County Sheriffâs Deputy Christian Hughes and state Trooper Sean Iles worked to save the bleeding teen. Now they are being recognized for their efforts. The sheriffâs office is planning to issue Mr. Hughes a letter of commendation for the incident.
âThey really saved his life,â Sheriff Colleen OâNeill said.
This time it was when police say an 18-year-old stabbed a 13-year-old and two 15-year-old boys between buildings 5 and 6 at Eastbrook Apartments. The 18-year-old suspect ran from the scene but was ultimately taken into custody and was cooperative with law enforcement. As of last week, the city police were still considering self-defense as a motive for the stabbing.
