State Police Asking For Help IDing Victim Of Fatal CT Crash

Read / Add Comments State police are asking the public for help identifying the victim of a violent fatal crash on I-91 in Hartford County. The crash took place around 5:40 p.m., Monday, May 24, north of exit 23 in Rocky Hill, said the Connecticut State Police. According to state police, the crash was so intense they have been unable to determine who the driver is, or what kind of Ford vehicle they were driving when it slammed into a bridge abutment. Before the crash, the driver was heading north on I-91 in the left lane when it left the highway, went into the grass median, hit a concrete bridge support before coming to rest on top of a guardrail, facing south, state police said.

Richard J. Vining, 69, of 56 Lindsley Road, Branford, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred in the median of the southbound side of the highway, just south of Exit 20 and Country Club Road, about 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, police said. Vining had just driven on the highway and into the acceleration lane before hitting the van, which was stopped and unoccupied, and then hitting a guardrail, police said.
