Arkansas is standing tall and proud of native son Trooper James Ray, named by the American Association of State Troopers as Trooper of the Year - 2021.
Trooper Ray is being recognized for his brave act that protected many lives of people traveling on I-40 last year through western Arkansas. The 24-year-old State Trooper found himself in a dangerous car chase where the vehicle being pursued ended up driving in the wrong direction into oncoming traffic. All trooper Ray could think of to do was get out in front of the other driver, cross the median, stop oncoming traffic and then attempt to stop the driver of the other vehicle. Amazingly, it all worked. When the suspect attempted to go around the Troopers car, Ray timed it perfectly and crashed into the other vehicle in such a way as to knock both of their vehicles into the median, out of oncoming traffic and luckily no one was seriously injured.
