the leader at large. yeah, he s supposedly in iraq but let me ask you this so i wasn t clear, dan are you for this u.s. troop withdrawal? what i believe is that the relatively modest number of troops we have in syria at this time, 2,000 troops if it were up to me i would leave them there so that they could continue to take the fight to isis and continue to provide the important train and assist to the syrian democratic forces who would otherwise be at risk from turkey and others in that region , and then also of importance is the intelligence collection. it s not like turning on or off a faucet. we need to have our military and intelligence assets in place to track isis, and without them i m concerned that we won t be able to do that as effectively. that means you agree with military and security experts on this, so again, let s talk about that because this is what s really crucial in the wake of u.s. troop pullout. you re going to have how many people would stay behind to do
the american people and our country. this is why we need to bring our troops home from syria. we need to bring our troops home from afghanistan, and we need to end these regime change war policies that are so costly in ways that i ve just discussed, in human lives and american taxpayer dollars. do you worry about those countries being left particularly vulnerable with the u.s. troop pullout? we have a small number of troops in these countries, and ultimately, their presence there is not going to make them more or less vulnerable. our troops need to be concerned about keeping the american people safe, making sure that our country is secure, and this president s policies and frankly the policies that have spanned through different administrations and through both political parties of continuing regime change wars not only make us less safe, not only make the american people less safe
country, is it clear, you know, at this time, what kind of time line there is in your view, of a u.s. troop pullout of syria? no, i don t think it is clear to anyone involved, even the military, as to exact lip what the time line is. i think what has happened, is that the president has reversed course from a policy that existed, where the secretary of state, and the national security adviser assured our allies and friends in the region, including the kurds on the ground, that we were staying for a long period of time. in an effort to get iran out of syria. that seemed to make sense with president trump s anti-iran policy. and everyone thought that s where we were. now, he s basically saying we are going to get out as soon as we can. i think it would probably be the best way to state it. and it depends on what happens with isis on the ground. it depends on what agreements
