NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) â A 21-year-old nursing student has been hospitalized for three months with complications from COVID-19.
Days after Tanner Johnson s 21st birthday, she got sick. Johnson said, For the most part my asthma my whole life has been controlled, but covid definitely made an impact on that especially with my lungs.
Tanner s mom, LaShawn Johnson, credits the doctors and nurses in the COVID-19 ICU at TriStar Centennial Medical Center with saving her daughter s life. They had told me early on, sheâs young and weâre fighting for her. and they kept fighting for her, LaShawn Johnson said.

Of the total number of cases, 8,470 people have died up 40 from the number 24 hours earlier.
The number of recorded active cases in Tennessee has fallen 20 percent in two weeks, with state health officials reporting that 57,032 individuals are currently infected with COVID.
The number of people who have been hospitalized with the virus in the state has fallen more than 21 percent in the past two weeks. On Tuesday, the health department reported 2,647 people are being treated for confirmed COVID across 114 hospitals.

âThey already have some immunity from getting the first vaccine, a little north of 50%, Dr. Tracy Osborne said.
The second dose gives people more than 90% immunity after a week according to Dr. Osborne. So what our bodies are doing, is amplifying that response, so weâre ready for it because we got the first shot.
