By Frank Parkison (Photo by Jason Miller/Getty Images) CLEVELAND, OH The Cleveland Indians got behind early to the Yankees, staring at 3 run deficit in the fourth, before taking the lead on a Franmil Reyes long ball. Cleveland never looked back once they gained the lead, riding on an excellent performance from the bullpen to defeat the Bronx Bombers by the final score of 7-3. Tristan McKenzie struggled with his command on Sunday afternoon, falling behind in the count against a dangerous Yankees lineup. McKenzie gave up two home runs for 3 earned runs, and was pulled following the fourth inning. The Cleveland bullpen combined for 5 shutout innings, including stellar performances from the youngsters James Karinchak and and Emmanuel Clase.

share-square-2222010 A pair of former top prospects and another well on his way took their turns in the spotlight Saturday. The trio did not disappoint. Tristan McKenzie struck out seven over five innings while Dane Dunning and Dean Kremer squaring off against each other combined to allow a run over 10 2/3 innings with 11 strikeouts in a matchup of young arms. McKenzie worked through traffic during his third outing and second start of the season. The 23-year-old scattered five hits and walked four but allowed just one run and was in line for the win before Cincinnati rallied for a 3-2 win. McKenzie also collected his first Major League hit on a line-drive single to right field off Sonny Gray in the third.

Cleveland Indians Bob DiBiasio speaks to local Rotary clubs

Jim Brewer Special to the Ashland Times-Gazette While familiar stalwarts like Frankie Lindor, Corey Kluber and Mike Clevinger are gone, there still is hope for greatness in the Cleveland Indians baseball camp. At least that’s the impression given members of the Loudonville and Ashland Rotary Clubs after receiving a presentation/pep talk Feb. 16 on the coming season by Bob DiBiasio, senior vice president of community relations for the Indians organization. DiBiasio was a college-mate of Ashland Rotary President Ted Daniels while both were students at Ohio Wesleyan University in the 1970s, and since then has worked 42 years in the Indians’ organization. At age 66 he is one of the most senior members on the Indians’ staff.
