Decomposing whale tail spotted in harbour

She said the whale fluke was “well decomposed” and “because the extent of decomposition, we can’t determine what species it is”. “Our rangers are towing it away but we are still determining where we will take it. It’s too big and it’s condition too poor to lift it out of the water. “We don t know where the rest of the remains are.” supplied/Stuff The whale fluke floating in Nelson Harbour prompted a warning by the habourmaster. Grant said DOC rangers had towed the tail to the outer side of the Boulder Bank and it was being tethered to further decompose naturally in the tidal zone.

Waiting time for disabled pre-schooler help cut, but 'immediate access needed'

Advocates say the Education Ministry needs to reduce the wait for specialist help further. Photo: 123RF It has cut the average waiting time for its early intervention service from 104 days earlier this year to 78 days in the five months to the end of November. The Early Childhood Council and IHC said it was a start, but they didn t believe children with disabilities should have to wait any time at all for support. Delays for the service blew out three years ago, rising from 72 days in 2016-17 to 105 days by 2018-19, and 104 days in 2019-20. The service has long had the worst average waiting times of any of the ministry s special education services.
