LETTERS: Prisoners are being punished; misuse of government agency

Prisoners are being punished Respectfully, I must disagree with Patrick Condon. People in jail are awaiting trial. 2020 saw some terrible postponements of fair trials due to COVID-19 but that is not happening now. They are likely criminals, and getting mail could potentially include things not meant to be mailed. Committing a crime does not give you the right to have the same privileges as law abiding citizens. I worked at a book store and you can not buy a book and send to a jail or prison. It has to come directly from the publisher. Not getting mail is not the same as being denied food, or the ability to have hygiene.

LETTERS: Smiling all the way to prison; thankful for the police

Smiling all the way to prison Once again, the justice system is denying “justice”. High profile and often reported crimes that our citizens become involved in (Krystal Lee Kenney and Kelsey Berreth immediately come to mind) are becoming almost intolerable. How the man who played a role in the execution-style murder of two teenagers will likely get parole in 20 years is a crime on its own. Judge David Shakes had his hands tied behind his back. The prosecution team should be ashamed of themselves for doing such a poor job that the first trial ended in a mistrial. Yes, there is always risk that the second trial would have resulted in acquittal, but I suspect the two victims’ family members would have been willing to gamble on that as opposed to a cold-blooded murderer getting a lenient sentence.

LETTERS: This is not justice in any way; recasting and erasing history

This is not justice in any way I am angry, saddened and upset over the news that Krystal Kenney will likely be released early and maybe even in the next week or two. She might not have swung the bat like Patrick Frazee did, but her complicity in the young woman and mother’s death is well-known. She could have saved Kelsey’s life by contacting the authorities about the repeated requests to assist in Kelsey’s demise. I do not believe Kenney has remorse except for herself because she is in prison. I would like to think she will live the remainder of her life with sorrow for her actions or more importantly lack of action, but she clearly has no conscious because if she did she would have changed the trajectory before Kelsey was bludgeoned to death in her home.
