Upstate University Hospital drone flies over downtown Syracuse to deliver Covid test kit [syracuse.com] Syracuse, N.Y. – A drone took off from the roof of Upstate University Hospital this morning and flew over city streets to drop off a package containing a Covid-19 test kit at a parking lot a half mile away on East Fayette Street. It was one of 13 test flights conducted by Upstate this week. The flights marked the first time the government has allowed drone deliveries of biological specimens over a populated area with busy streets and moving vehicles. The unmanned flights provided a glimpse of what Upstate officials forsee as a new way of rapidly delivering blood, tissue and other lab specimens between the hospital, its Community campus on Onondaga Hill and other locations instead of using couriers driving cars to transport the items.
