Mines Seniors Take Environmental Clean Water Project from Design to Installation
Two Mines students, Christian
Heinrich and Joshua Fleming, in front of part of a water flow regulation and
measurement system called a weir that they designed and found funding to build
and install. The system, which is part of Trinity Eco Prayer Park in Rapid
City, helps protect water quality in Rapid Creek.

In 2017, a South Dakota Mines student noted the infrastructure at Trinity Eco Prayer Park in Rapid City was not adequate to handle larger storms. This sparked the idea for a series of upgrades that would increase water flow and filtration capacity. Thus creating a living laboratory.
Joining us are Ken Steinken, one of the visionaries of the park and serves as the park director, and Jason Phillips, graduate student and staff member of Terra Site Design, the firm that designed the park.
