While daily Covid-19 case numbers and the number of people in hospital with the virus have fallen since their peak in January, they still remain too high.
Tanaiste Leo Varadkar has said Ireland s Covid-19 case numbers are going in the right direction but added there remains a long way to go in the battle against the virus.
Meanwhile, Liz Canavan, assistant secretary at Department of the Taoiseach, warned that while numbers are falling the country cannot afford them to level out at this point.
She urged people to remember the health system is continuing to operate under intense pressure .
