they got bad advice from their lawyers, their lawyers making a last-minute correction there. certainly in the courtroom, based on our colleagues who were there, they entered with high hopes and they left with disappointment and perhaps some surprise. what do we know about what else flynn needs to cooperate on, jim, and will it be enough for this federal judge? well, the judge made clear, the more you cooperate, the more advantage you will have when the sentencing actually happens, this now a number of weeks away. it is on two lines of inquiry, one, this case about illegal foreign lobbying that two of flynn s former partners have been indicted for. flynn has not presumably because he has provided information in the investigation. the special counsellor made clear while his cooperation has been helpful, it is possible he could continue to help. that appears to be the strategy going forward, not without some encouragement from this judge saying, cooperate going forward and you may get
unregistered agent for turkey during the campaign. that is a big deal. and i don t think people that gets emphasized enough. we get caught up in the lying. but he was acting as an agent of turkey during the campaign, writing op-eds, and just, you know, freelancing on this you know, what did trump know? there are so many questions that stem from that. yeah. that are unanswered. and one thing i think is interesting, mary kathryn, a lot of flynn supporters say he was ambushed and entrapped by the fbi. but if you read the notes, actually, the fbi bent over backwards for flynn who they considered, i m sure, like a colleague and a fellow intelligence sort of wanted to jog his memory. yeah, and in a way they would not do for anybody around this table. no, they would take me hand in cuffs. especially at the airport. . we ll discuss that later. but in one of the exchanges, the agents asked flynn if he recalled any conversations with
disgrace and other things and still had to go to the podium. couldn t cancel at that point. so they miscalculated. this is a gross miscalculation. i think what we saw today is the fact that sarah sanders, many people when she first got the job said she s inexperienced, she hasn t had the experience. but i would venture to say what we saw today is another example how she is not only inexperienced, but unqualified. you can be inexperienced, but i don t think she s qualified. i think it can be as simple as self interest and his affinity, right? he has an affinity for generals who like trump. and general flynn is a general who likes trump and therefore he is going to just going to root for him? you don t think there is anything along the lines, stay with me, i ll stay with you? i m rooting for you? it s a combination of the two, and, again, if you just hushed your mouth president trump clearly bothered by this before 9:00 a.m. this morning. tweeted about the mueller witch h
only a number of days ago, flynn s lawyers were suggesting, as the president repeatedly charged, that flynn was entrapped by the fbi into telling lies. then yesterday we see the accounts of those interviews where it is clear that flynn repeatedly lied, willfully though he was given chances by fbi agents to correct his story. today the judge calling him before the bench and making him repeat multiple times, no, i was not entrapped, yes, i take responsibility for this crime. and then the judge then the lawyers, rather, for flynn, sensing that as the judge was scolding him in effect with these phrases that jessica talked about, you sold your country out, i am not hiding my disgust, this is a very serious offense, judging that maybe the predictions that there was no jail time coming might be wrong and that it would be best for them to delay, to punt in effect, cooperate more and hope for a lesser sentence at a later
crimes. listen to this. why is the president making these comments, given these things? it s perfectly acceptable for the president to make a positive comment about somebody while we wait to see what the court s determination is. he loo i had to tied to the . and we weren t waiting for the court s determination. he was pleading guilty. the determination is made. by flynn! i am guilty, i am a felon. so there is no finding of fact here at issue that the president should actually state out of. but he s obviously communicating with flynn. and it s always trump s self interest. i do think there is a strategy in that trump always talks about himself and refers you think he s communicating, i m with you, stay with me. i think he is. but don t you think sarah sanders and the rest of the white house were expecting to take a victory lap today? everybody thought that general flynn was going to get no jail time. that blew up in their face when the judge essentially accused him
