Guide Dogs of the Desert needs volunteer puppy raisers
Marion Rodriguez
Guide Dogs of the Desert (GDD), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Palm Springs, is calling on all dog-lovers to volunteer as puppy raisers for 20 Labrador and standard poodle puppies who are to be trained to work as guide dogs.
The paw-loving organization is in need of potential foster families who will volunteer their time and their home to help teach the puppies fundamental skills, such as: basic obedience, leash etiquette, proper house manners and socialization.
Sound daunting? Never fear, Guide Dogs of the Desert, one of 14 accredited guide dog training schools in the United States and one of three to train standard poodles, will assist volunteer families, and each person will have the opportunity to be a part of the process needed to help people with blindness or visual impairments find their independence through the use and help of a guide dog.
