Coaches from India, Kuwait, Serbia, South Africa and Zimbabwe graduate WSLA High Performance Course

by Doug Gray on 26 Feb, 2021 11:28 • Español Mid-February saw the virtual graduation ceremony of the Women for Sport Leadership Academy’s (WSLA) High Performance Coach course that began back in 2019. The five female coaches invited by World Triathlon to join their peers from five other IFs selected by ASOIF to take part in what was the first third-party initiative to be funded by Olympic Solidarity were; Pamela Fulton (ZIM), Ljudmila Medan (SRB), Kate Murray (RSA), Pooja Chaurushi (IND) and Najla Al-Jeraiwi (KUW). World Triathlon President Marisol Casado was also invited to speak at the end of the course that, despite having to be concluded online due to the Covid-19 pandemic, remained a defining experience for those taking part.

Ideal conditions welcome participants of the Asiago World Triathlon Winter Cup

Over 20 elite athletes will compete in the first World Triathlon event in 2021 in Asiago, an event that most athletes will also use as a warm-up ahead of the European Championships in Cheile Grădiştei and the World Championships in Andorra, which are due to take place in March. Although the international focus will be on the World Cup, taking place this Friday (19 February) there are two more days of competition on the timetable: Winter Cross Duathlon - Kids, Youth and Age-Group on Saturday and the Italian National Championships - Elite, U23 and Age-Group on Sunday. The World Triathlon Winter Cup Asiago will be streamed live on TriathlonLive on Sunday, at 9.00 CET.

World Triathlon Championship Series Abu Dhabi moves date to November, closing the 2021 season

The decision, backed unanimously by the World Triathlon Executive Board, will not only allow more time for the current worldwide travel restrictions to ease, but will be able to serve as a test event for the 2022 Abu Dhabi World Triathlon Championship Finals, also taking place at the end of the season. The organisers of the 2021 World Triathlon Championship Series Abu Dhabi have planned for a Mixed Relay event to take place the same weekend.

First-ever women s triathlon club forms in Uzbekistan

Under the guidance of Mrs. Yelena Kun, a certified trainer and triathlete, the initiative is social, non-commercial and aims to develop triathlon and women’s participation in Uzbekistan. During the ongoing global pandemic, the club remains connected virtually, motivating and supporting one another to keep active with indoor training sessions. The launch of the club enhances the development of the sport in Uzbekistan and promotes equality within participation in triathlon. The club provides access to every woman, regardless of her social status, religion, age, physical capabilities or background. The Sport Development team within Uzbekistan Triathlon Federation (UTF) shared insight into the development of the women’s triathlon club.

Kate Bramley, from top age-group world triathlete to performance coach in Australia

At the World Triathlon Championship race in Chicago, she was able to add a gold medal to her collection, with victory in the same age-group category across the same distance.  The World Triathlete is living the triathlon dream, having progressed through the sport to become one of Triathlon Australia’s accredited performance coaches to some of the nation’s top age-group triathletes. Kate Bramley shares her race experiences and what it means to better understand human psychology and physiological performance as a triathlon coach and seeing the mix of people training together to achieve personal goals in triathlon. Kate also highlights and commends the work that World Triathlon is delivering to develop the support around the globe.
