reporter: a very big surprise. what is happening right now. this is a church where all 50 of them are being assisted, getting their basic needs met right now. i met one woman on that plane. she said yesterday morning, they were in san antonio. she, her husband, and their child. and they were promised help. they said they were getting on a plane, they were promised help. she, her family, and 47 others got on to two planes near san antonio. and they ended up here in martha s vineyard. i want to bring in dillon fernandez, a state representative here. you ve been chatting with folks. how are they doing here and what needs are being met? sure. everyone s needs are being met right now. we have to move over so the person can come through here. everyone s needs, the second they got off the plane were met. this island community sprang together. everyone got the beds and the shelter. we have areas set up, triage
individuals who still have blue tarps on their roofs and almost 3,000 homes that are still in need of repair. our hospitals of course which were declared more than 50% destroyed in the last two hurricanes we still don t have modular units. so on the island of st. croix where i am, we have one operating room and three triage areas. the questions were such as how do we get dialysis patients in, and get them back to their homes making sure that people are sheltered in place. those who have compromised homes are going to evacuation center or with family who have some sound structures. congresswoman, thank you for taking some time to talk to us. we will stay in close touch with you, and our thoughts are with you our concern is that we don t need the federal government diverting funds right now, particularly during hurricane season. that s demoralizing to us as american citizens and just
wsvn 7 is continuing to cover, this all the local stations in south florida broke into local programming 2:30 this afternoon. the pictures on the right-hand of the screen is what we saw first. students running from their school where we know one person had been firing a weapon and had killed people around them. they came to these triage areas and we just got word from the broward sheriff s office that 14 people have been transported to area schools. they said the number was between 20 and 50. 14 transported. we don t know about any that may not have been transported. but to hear it from the superintendent of schools and from senator bill nelson, a number of people have been killed. this began just about two hours ago. a little more now with the first calls coming in to the broward sheriff s office. coral springs police there,
as we see the triage areas right in the middle of the intersection. you know, we think back and we have seen these combat pictures from nam until and then from the gulf war where we re seeing people wounded and sometimes even more serious than that. and, unfortunately, now we are seeing it on the streets of america. and these incidents as you know, i mean, their just coming now multiple times in a week. unfortunately, many times we have people whether it s mental health or something else, they re copying the behavior that they saw that previous day or week. one more way to act out. whether this is one shooter or multiple shooters, we don t know right now. but we do know that the initial pictures do suggest that we have got obviously multiple victims, at least ten or more and we don t know if it reaches the original number of 20 yet. again, these are the first images coming in to us and as
