The 39 bus is one of 38 routes that could be redesigned as part of NJ Transits NewBus Newark project. Facebook Share NJ Transit launched its redesign of 38 bus routes that radiate from Newark to destinations as far away as Somerville, Hackensack and Parsippany, starting with an online survey and the beginning of meetings with community members. For those who don’t have access to computers or the internet, NJ Transit will directly reach out to community and faith-based groups in the greater Newark area with the support of the city to better understand their members needs, said Jim Smith, an agency spokesman.

NJ Transit, the state’s public transit agency, has launched a new program to redesign its bus network for the Newark area. The program is called “NewBus Newark.” The initiative includes an analysis of the Newark area’s 38 local bus routes. A survey that just launched will assess the current transit market, gathering information about where people live, where they work, and how they travel. The findings will be used along with community input to design a new intrastate bus network for the Newark region.

Schumer: More Transit Dollars Heading to New York

The Majority Leader participated in a video call organized by several public transportation advocacy organizations such as The Riders Alliance, Regional Plan Association and Tri-State Transportation Campaign, among others. As we’ve previously reported, a major project that has been in the lurch is the Gateway Tunnel Project, which calls for two new double-tracked rail tunnels underneath the Hudson River. There’s a chance it may get the funding this year.
