Grant for Tri-State Airport to secure air service to Chicago, DC

HUNTINGTON — Nonstop flights to two cities are on the horizon for a local airport. The Tri-State Airport Authority near Huntington has been awarded a $750,000 fiscal year 2019 Small Community Air Service Development Program grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The grant will be used to recruit, initiate and support new air service to Chicago O’Hare International Airport and Washington-Dulles International Airport. U.S. Rep. Carol Miller, R-W.Va., announced the funding in a news release Friday. “This grant is excellent news for southern West Virginia,” Miller said in the release. “Bringing nonstop service from Huntington to Washington, D.C., and Chicago will increase commerce, bring more outside investment, and expand tourism opportunities to the Mountain State.”

W Va regional airports get federal funding for improvements

CHARLESTON — Seven West Virginia regional airports will receive a total of $5.3 million in federal funds for improvement projects. Sen. Joe Manchin announced the funding Tuesday from the U.S. Department of Transportation. Manchin said in a statement that additional funding from the American Rescue Plan will ensure that the projects will have a full federal match. The funding in various amounts is for the Tri-State Airport Authority near Huntington, the Greenbrier Valley Airport in Lewisburg, airports in Elkins and Phillippi, the Benedum Airport Authority in Bridgeport, along with airport authorities in Raleigh and Logan counties. “This funding will improve regional airports across the state and spur economic development. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and a pilot myself, I will continue to advocate for funding and resources to support West Virginia airports,” Manchin said.
