VERNDALE, Minn. A 1-year-old child suffered unknown injuries, and her mother was injured trying to rescue her in a house fire Wednesday night, April 7.
The fire was reported at about 9:42 p.m. at 406 NW Brown St. in Verndale. At the time of the initial call, the reporting party stated there was still a child inside the home. Wadena County deputies, officers from the Wadena Police Department and a Verndale firefighter responded to the scene and observed flames at an upstairs window, where the child was reported to be, according to a Wadena County Sheriff s Office news release. Several attempts were made to locate the child but heat and smoke made the area inaccessible.

VERNDALE, Minn. (KFGO) – A one-year-old girl was flown to a Minneapolis hospital after a house fire Wed. night.
The Wadena County Sheriff’s Office says the girl was rescued from an upstairs bedroom by Wadena and Verndale firefighters. The girl’s mother tried to go upstairs before fire crews arrived, but was driven back by smoke and flames. The mother was taken to Tri-County Hospital in Wadena. The mother suffered from the effects of smoke and also had burns.
Their conditions have not been released. The blaze was reported shortly after 9:30 p.m.

VERNDALE, Minn. A mother in Verndale, Minnesota tries to save her one-year-old girl during a house fire, but can’t find her.
Fire crews from Verndale and Wadena arrived just before 10 p.m. Wednesday and entered through an upstairs window and found the girl.
She was taken, along with her mother, to Tri-County Hospital before the girl was flown to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
The mother suffered burns and smoke inhalation.
Their conditions have not been released.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
