Tuesday, July 27, 2021 4:00 AM On Saturday July 24, 2021, Tonya Lynn Thompson, loving mother of two children, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born Sept. 6, 1970, in Crawfordsville Ind., to Hubert Thompson and Linda Thompson Busenbark.
Ms. Thompson was a loving and devoted mother to Evan Hubble and Paige Knowling. She was a 1989 graduate of Southmont Jr. Sr. High School and achieved her associate’s degree from Ivy Tech in business administration. For the past several years she was employed by Crawfordsville School Corporation as a bus driver.
She enjoyed attending her kids sporting events, playing golf, watching crime shows on TV, backyard pool parties, boating and spending time with her grand-dog, Jerzi. Everyone who met Ms. Thompson loved her. She was always positive and optimistic even upon receiving her diagnosis of cancer. That was the idea when Kelsey, a firefighter and paramedic, founded the Safe Haven Baby Box in 2015. The focus is on providing a safe and judgment-free place for new parents to surrender an infant up to 30 days old.
With the new box installed and blessed at Putnam County EMS, 513 Bloomington St., Greencastle, new parents in Putnam County have the same opportunity as those in 64 other communities where such boxes were already installed in EMS or fire stations.
It is a great day to be in Putnam County, Kelsey said. Women now have a last resort option.
