Bevo’s Daily Roundup: Texas HC Steve Sarkisian says he’s ‘pumped’ for Red River Showdown versus Oklahoma

One of Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian’s top goals is to beat the Oklahoma Sooners, a feat his predecessor Tom Herman only accomplished once in four seasons.
“The idea for us now moving forward is not to get stuck staring at that, but focus on today because today is the most important day for us if we want to go achieve those goals,” Sarkisian said in an interview on The Horn, according to a report in 247Sports. “Through it all, it’s a heck of a rivalry and I’m so pumped to be part of it, but I can’t worry about that game right now. I’ve got to worry about: what are we doing today to make sure we’re putting ourselves in a position to be successful when that moment comes?”
The Cowboys’ secondary got even deeper Friday.
Former Wake Forest safety Trey Rucker announced his commitment to Oklahoma State out of the transfer portal. Rucker just finished his sophomore season with the Demon Deacons. In 17 games played in two seasons, he had 84 tackles, two tackles for loss and two interceptions.
Rucker started nine games at Wake Forest as a true freshman in 2019. He played in just five games in 2020 while battling a foot injury.
Originally from Oakton, Virginia, Rucker was a three-star recruit in the 2019 class. He chose Wake Forest over offers from Virginia, North Carolina, Indiana, Maryland, Purdue and others.
