In what was expected to be one of the most competitive regional championships of the day, (1) Myers Park never trailed as it cruised to the 4A boys basketball state championship game with a 72-51 win over (3) North Mecklenburg.
North Mecklenburg clinched the Queen City 3A/4A Conference championship with a 65-59 win over Chambers in the conference tournament championship game. The game was played at Hough High School. The schools split the regular season series, so this game determined which team would get the top seed out of the league in the N.C. High School Athletic Association's 4A state playoffs.
Chambers High, the No. 8 team in the HSOT Top 25 statewide rankings, took down #2 North Mecklenburg on the road by a score of 67-52. The win evened up the season series and created a tie for first place in the Queen City 3A/4A Conference.
