A pickup and van collided near Athens Monday morning, Jan. 11, fatally injuring a 78-year-old man Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Sara Warren said.

ATHENS, Texas A 78-year-old Athens man is dead following a crash Tuesday morning.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, around 8:40 a.m., troopers were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 1616 and Trey Circle, just north of Athens.
The preliminary investigation revealed a van was traveling west on Trey Circle and a pickup was traveling south on FM 1616. For an undetermined reason, the van disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of Trey Circle and FM 1616. This caused the pickup to strike the right passenger side of the van. Both vehicles came to rest in the west ditch of FM 1616.

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - A 78-year-old man died in a two-vehicle wreck that occurred at the intersection of FM 1616 and Trey Circle in Henderson County Monday morning.
According to a press release, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to the crash at 8:40 a.m. Monday. The crash occurred at the intersection of FM 1616 and Trey Circle about 4.3 miles northeast of Athens.
The preliminary crash report shows that Thomas Carroll, of Athens, was driving a 2015 Toyota Sienna west on Trey Circle, and Larry Webb, 44, of Athens, was driving a 2019 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup south on FM 1616 when the wreck occurred. For an unknown reason, Carroll disregarded the stop sign at the intersection, and the pickup struck the right passenger side of the van, the press release stated.
