Black Lives Matter murals coming to Ypsilanti ahead of Juneteenth celebration Updated May 18, 2021; YPSILANTI, MI – Local artists, activists and community members will paint “Black Lives Matter” murals on two different streets in downtown Ypsilanti on June 5-6. The Ypsilanti City Council unanimously approved a proposal for the murals at its Feb. 16 meeting, and organizers have since raised more than $10,000 for support and supplies, according to Trische Duckworth, executive director of the community organization Survivors Speak and an organizer of the event, along with Trevor Stone, community builder at Nonprofit Enterprise at Work. One mural is being painted on South Washington Street off Michigan Avenue, and the other is on the riverside entry driveway off Cross Street, Duckworth said.
