Tenth Annual JRCPPF Conference: Healing the Big Fractures in the Economy, Politics & Society

The past year has revealed deep fractures in our economy, polity, and society, endangering not only lives but also long-term livelihoods. As policymakers chart a transition to a more inclusive recovery, how do we heal these fractures? This conference will explore the structural changes and innovative thinking required to restore norms, increase investment, and sustain economic growth that benefits all. Presented by the Julis-Rabinowitz Center for Public Policy & Finance, this online event will bring together academic researchers, industry practitioners, and government policymakers. The conference will be streamed live on YouTube and videos will be available in our YouTube Video Library.  There is no fee to attend this conference, which is open to the University community as well as the public. Ohio State economics professor Trevon Logan joins  Dr. Terrance Dean and The Other Side podcast host Scot Kirk to talk about Logan s recent column in The Dispatch on how policies enacted decades ago to keep neighborhoods segregated still affect cities today. Logan explains how decisions on where to build highways, zoning for new housing developments, and redlining of neighborhoods kept Blacks in less desirable areas of cities and hindered them from accumulating the wealth that comes from home ownership. Logan also argues that since segregation is the result of deliberate policy decisions, that s why he supports reparations for African-Americans.
