Man convicted in Thibodaux slaying A Lafourche Parish jury convicted a Napoleonville man Wednesday in the killing of a Thibodaux resident in 2017.  Tremell Batiste, 24, was convicted of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting 30-year-old Chansie White on Ridgefield Road in Thibodaux. Following a three-day trial, the jury handed down its unanimous decision after about 90 minutes of deliberation.   Batiste now faces a mandatory life prison sentence without parole, probation or early release.  The shooting occurred shortly before 3 p.m.  Nov. 15, 2017. Police responded and found several people trying to help White, authorities said. The gunshot victim was taken to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Trial begins for 24-year-old accused of killing Thibodaux man If convicted, Tremell Batiste of Napoleonville faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison. Jury selection was underway Monday in the trial of a suspect accused of killing a Thibodaux man in 2017.  Tremell Batiste, 24, of Napoleonville, was indicted in 2018 on a second-degree murder charge. He is accused of fatally shooting 30-year-old Chansie White Nov. 15, 2017, on Ridgefield Road in Thibodaux.  If convicted, Batiste faces a mandatory life prison sentence without parole, probation or early release. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Heather Hendrix, and Batiste is being represented by court-appointed attorney Ivan Thompson.
