The Humane Society of Ottawa County held its annual meeting, electing President Marty Mortus, Vice President Sue Sradeja,Treasurer Mary Anne Koebel, and Secretary Sarah La Marca. Reelected to the board were Lara Bischoff, Diane Hopkins, Mortus, and Sradeja, with La Marca a new board member.
Shelter manager Lesa Heredia reported the 2020 activity for the shelter. A total of 150 animals were brought into the shelter, 124 cats and 26 dogs. A total of 156 animals were adopted, including one bird, 110 cats, 41 dogs and four reptiles. Spayed and neutered were 87 cats and 10 dogs.
The Humane Society was able to begin Trap/Neuter/ Return (TNR) projects in Port Clinton, Oak Harbor, Williston, Martin and Marblehead to reduce the feral and stray cat populations in neighborhoods. A total of 19 cats were trapped, vetted, and released back into their colonies, with 16 cats placed in barns. Ten cats were adopted into loving homes.
