SOUTHBURY — It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Jane C. Mulreany, on April 8, 2021, at the age of 84. Jane was born on January 22, 1937, in New York City to the late, Joseph and Clara (Zanelli) Marchini. She received a bachelor’s degree at Hunter College in New York City and a master’s in social work at Fordham University in the Bronx, N.Y. Ever the professional, Jane spent her career as a dedicated social worker. Jane touched many lives. Jane lived for 30-plus years on Collier Drive in Carmel, N.Y., and formed many long-lasting friendships in the neighborhood. After her kids had all moved out, Jane sold her house on Collier Drive and moved to Heritage Village in Southbury.

Man, 88, dying in hospice care, fulfills dream of becoming US citizen

Treasure Coast Newspapers …I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God, he said.  Family erupted in applause  Taborda Romero, an 88-year-old man in hospice care battling end-stage metastatic colon cancer, was officially a U.S. citizen.  I am really emotional and excited, more than excited, said Romero, of an unincorporated area of Martin County, Florida. I love freedom and liberty…and all the good things that you have in this country. Taborda Romero and his wife, Laura Apitz de Taborda, emigrated from Venezuela in 2013 as the country faced unprecedented socioeconomic issues that political experts have argued were more severe than the Great Depression.

At 88 years old, Felix Taborda became a U.S. citizen in a private swearing-in ceremony Monday, after years of wanting to officially, and proudly, call himself an American. Thank you for your patience, an immigration official told Taborda before having him repeat the oath of allegiance to become a U.S citizen in the comfort of Taborda s home. Taborda and his wife, Laura, waited for eight years to become citizens, fleeing from Venezuela in 2013 at the urging of their children in the U.S. because of the political climate.
