7 things to know in Austin food: New beer garden sprouts at Cedar Park Nestle into the new beer garden with a hoppy pint.
Openings Beer here! After months of exclusively offering beer to go, one of Austin’s best breweries has officially opened its new Cedar Park beer garden. Helmed by brothers Jonathan and Chris Harris,
Hedgehog Brewing features a wide range of brews, including easy-drinking hazy IPAs, hearty stouts, and wild-fermented farmhouse ales. Though the brewery is looking to fill a vacancy for an onsite food truck for Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, Hedgehog currently offers occasional food service from Austin-based fried-chicken trailer Yaadbird, and also allows customers to bring their own food on days with no onsite food tuck option. Families are welcome (and dogs too) on this sun-shaded patio, which is open Fridays 4-9 pm, Saturdays noon-9 pm, and Sundays noon-8 pm. Hedge
How the Team Behind Better Half Became the Most Important Culinary Voice in the City
White Zombie, Lil Baby, and Trent Green broadcasting a Denver vs. Las Vegas NFL game are all competing to be heard over the perpetual cacophony on Rainey Street. It’s a chilly Sunday in November, and Austin’s most debaucherous enclave is flush with revelers taking advantage of the last hours of the weekend. Patios are at capacity, televisions blare from rooftops, and the pungent smell of cologne hangs heavy in the air. Minus the smattering of face masks, one would never know that the world is in the throes of a global pandemic.

When relocating to new real estate, we frequently seek sources to remind us of something former and familiar. Sometimes we discover that acquaintance au courant without attempt. And if it doesn’t exist, we are afforded the ability to roll up our sleeves and build it.
While Buffalo, New York, is a long way away from Fort Worth (1,549 miles to be exact) that’s precisely what Buffalo native Travis Tober did.
With Buffalo, alternatively coined Nickel City, a nickname derived from the obsolete nickel of the same name, Tober borrowed that moniker for his acclaimed Austin bar as one of several nods to his hometown. He followed suit for the sister location which opened in October on South Main Street, albeit one year behind schedule.
The announcements left bar and restaurant owners to decide which officials to follow, with some deciding to carry on with business as usual and others making adjustments to their plans for what is usually one of the busiest nights of the year for the service industry.
Not all restaurant/bar owners intend to follow the mayor’s order. Jason Carrier, co-owner of the Dogwood, which has locations on West Sixth Street and at Rock Rose at Domain Northside, said his business will stay open as planned and run the risk of a $1,000 fine from the city.
The two locations are operating under a reservations-only policy on New Year’s Eve and have booked reservations for about half of their tables. Some of those reservations are now in limbo, according to Carrier.
