LAS CRUCES – Two former Las Cruces High School and New Mexico State University students have joined forces to create an audiobook company they hope will revolutionize the medium. Relying on their differing educational backgrounds and skill sets, Luc Cadet and Alejandro Gonzales founded Abantu Audio, designed to showcase books by authors who are Black, Indigenous and persons of color or BIPOC authors.
Cadet, who has degrees in management and computer information systems, came up with the idea after he was unable to find audiobooks about Black history. A Haitian refugee who migrated to the United States at age 3, he explained he wanted to learn more about his African roots.
