Deborah Ann Rose Diggs Jackson was born on May 5, 1932 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She is an only child of Alyce Lillian Booker and Chester L. Rose. Deborah’s parents divorced when she was a child, which meant that she lived between her two homes: West Medford, Massachusetts with her mother Alyce and the Booker Family, and in Roxbury, Massachusetts with her father Chester’s parents and the Rose Family. She died peacefully at her home in Osterville surrounded by her family on Dec. 1, 2020 at the age of 88.
Deborah graduated from high school in Roxbury, Massachusetts and, like most young ladies of her day, continued her education in secretarial school intending to prepare for her future. But in 1954, Deborah married George R. Diggs an Army Career Soldier. Deborah embraced being an Army wife in the newly integrated military and found tremendous joy in traveling with her family around the country and the world.
