Another round of small business grants and a new restaurant and tourism tax credit will be among the new measures needed to help Ontario companies weather the economic impact of the pandemic, NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says.
The Ontario NDP called on the Doug Ford government to put funding into an action plan that it believes would help businesses like hair salons and restaurants reopen after lockdowns end.

“We all know that reopening day is still weeks and weeks away for many, many businesses,” Horwath said Wednesday. “Main streets, as we’ve seen all throughout the province, are already dotted with for-lease signs, papered-up windows. No matter where you go, you can see the damage that the COVID-19 pandemic has wrought on our small business community.”
A new grant is being offered to small travel and tourism businesses to provide a one-time grant of between $10,000 to $20,000. Announced by Bruce-Grey.

WASAGA BEACH, ONT. The Ontario government is providing another round of grants for small tourism and travel businesses struggling to recover from the impact of the pandemic. The announcement comes on the heels of another extension to the province-wide stay-at-home order. On Thursday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said an extra two weeks of lockdown restrictions would help the province move towards the most normal July and August possible. The order is now in effect until at least June 2. For those in the tourism industry, any hope of reopening in time for the upcoming Victoria Day long weekend were dashed.
The grant was announced as part of the province’s budget.
To be able to apply, businesses must have fewer than 100 employees and show a minimum 20 percent decline in revenue between 2019 and 2020.
The grant is meant to support eligible small tourism and travel businesses that did not receive the Ontario Small Business Support Grant.
Small business owners can use the grant in whatever way makes the most sense for their business, with the deadline to apply set at June 25th.
