previous six nominees. and the grandson of former president jimmy carter is getting some thanks from president obama. james iv was the one who secretly revealed mitt romney s infamous 47% remarks. he said the president shook his hand and thanked him for his support. no official word from the white house. that s yo . now for a look at the weekend weather. bi bill karins is here. i ll start by saying sorry to the people who actually like february. it s time to end this. we have a lot of travel issues out there, especially anywhere colored in in the white. winter weather advisories from the storm. the storm has significantly weakened, but it s still producing freezing rain, sleet, and snow. we can track it from north carolina back all the way into the northern plains up into wisconsin and minnesota. here s what it looks like on radar. as far as the snow goes, that s mostly confined to iowa,
and, a powerful storm system moved across the country and, making for dangerous conditions, and marie molina is live at the fox extreme weather center. the system that produced blizzard conditions and, heavy snow, now is exiting the northeast and it is still producing travel issues today. we have delays, in the airport hubs like new york, and actually newark airport international and also across the jfk airport. so again delays out there and some of those are actually over an hour, and we have snow showers but only, the accumulation is pretty much over with, across forces of the northeast and it is a bit of an acquired day and the plains and the midwest and the southeast, and, as we head westbound, a lot of systems rolled through over the last several days and again today, another system producing rain, winds, and feet of snow across parts of the sierra nevadas, and, heavy snow,
baldwin county in alabama across southwestern portions of the state. there could currently be a tornado on the ground. threat of isolated tornados and damaging wind gusts will continue throughout the afternoon. the snowfall was significant across portions minnesota and wisconsin. over a foot of snow in some areas. minneapolis picked up 10 inches of snow. you can see in the images a lot of snow falling across the area. causing all kinds of travel issues though. the storm system is producing more travel issues again not because so much of snowfall but because of rainfall. we have the images on the satellite radar pictures. we have delays over an hour across parts of laguardia and other larger airports. heavy rain is falling further off towards the south across portions of tennessee alabama and georgia. a tornado warning across southwestern parts of alabama and southern mississippi and southeastern louisiana. that is until 3:00 p.m.
morning. the breezy conditions will give way to high pressure and clear skies this afternoon. so the only areas of really rain or snow, upper peninsula of michigan dealing with some rain and snow showers this morning. maybe green bay, a sprinkle or two. otherwise, a dry forecast around the country. a beautiful afternoon through new england and even much of the nation. really no travel issues out there during the day to day. it gets more active towards the weekend, unfortunately. the end of our great weather pattern. all right, bill. we ll check back in with you on that. a possible development in the search for a missing 10-year-old colorado girl and the best places to live for working moms. plus, an awkward situation for florida s governor and a phone sex line. we re going to explain in scrambled politics. you re watching first look on msnbc.
that s one of the heavy areas again as far as the bay area of california, a better chance of showers that will shift to the south dourg the uring the day. this white is actually coming down in the form of snowfall, even a few patches in through north texas. traveling today on i-40 especially just north of the corridor, some of the local roads could see some travel issues. maybe a one to three inch setup. 34 in amarillo, so border line for snowfall there. but there are winter weather advisories. some actually go into effect over the next couple of hours and remain through the early half of the daytime tomorrow. coming up, we ll talk a little more about the system on the west coast with some of the heavier showers, also some of the heavy showers continuing in florida. and also coming up, more greek foot dragging.
