states like california or new york where i am now, or other states where abortion is protected and will remain legal. they won t have the bus fare, they won t have train fare, they won t have train fare, they won t have train fare, they won t have gas for the car, they won t be able to get childcare for their children or take time off from work to travel hundreds of miles, maybe thousands of miles to get an abortion. this is a disasterfor poor women disaster for poor women especially, young women of colour especially. they are the ones without the voice, without the power, who will be hurt, and we must and we will continue to fight the good fight for them and fight with everything we have to change the law, which is what we have to do. we have to go to congress and get the women s health protection act passed. and to do that, we need to vote out the anti choice united states senators which are holding it up, and we need to go to the state legislatures and root out and vote out those
women who lived in states where abortion became a crime could go to the other states, like the women in texas who couldn t get an abortion after six weeks would go to the nearby state of oklahoma to get a legal abortion. oklahoma has now passed a law that is like texas s law which also bans abortion, so they won t have that status of haven. many women will not have the funds to travel to save states like california where i am now, or new york or other states where abortion is protected and will remain legal. they will not have the bus fare or train fare, they won t have gas for their cars. they won t be able to get childcare for their children or take time off work to travel hundreds of miles, maybe thousands of miles to get an abortion. this is a disasterfor poor women especially, rural women, young women, women of colour especially. they are the ones without
of we re going to continue to fight back. what they essentially did, that 5-4, is sent it back to the lower court for further briefing on the merits. this was about the temporary halt there and whether or not that was going to remain, but they re going to send it back on the merits, and we re going to fight really hard. we know a lot more about this than when the, quote of of unquote, emergency rule was issued a few months ago. one of the justices mentioned that she didn t know much about rural america. well, here in flowover country, here flyover country, there are rural hospitals that are going to close. rural hospitals are going to close. rural nursing homes are going to close. that, browne you know, husband or brother or grandfather that has dementia is going to get moved to a facility he s unfamiliar with. this is fighting to insure people don t have to travel hundreds of miles. we re going to continue to push back on that as those are further briefed in the eighth circuit and
for flagrantly unconstitutional. so presumably these abortion providers will act quickly to go to the district court in texas. the texas judge would then also act quickly. for now, this law is still on the books, still blocking abortions once a fetal heart bate is detected around six weeks. this has really thrown the state of abortion in texas into disarray. we ve heard stories, obviously abortion clinics effectively shutting down there. we ve heard stories from abortion clinics in neighboring states, saying how they re overwhelmed because women from texas are coming to their clinics. and women have been having to travel hundreds of miles, paying hundreds or thousands of dollars to get abortions while the state of texas is no longer offering them. so, again, to recap, a bit of a mixed outcome here. the law remains in effect. the supreme court did not block it. however, they did give abortion providers a path to challenge this law, meaning a lower court judge could block it again soon.
one health center left in missouri, and women have to travel hundreds of miles, making repeat trips, getting child care, time off of work, just to obtain a medical procedure. and the people who are affected the most by these terrible laws that are closing down our health centers, they re women with low income, women who live in rural areas who are the most affected by these onerrous restrictions. at what point do you think the supreme court has to pick up these cases if it s your argument this is an excuse. this isn t about the paperwork or admitting privileges of these things. if the result is to eliminate all abortion in the state, does that itself in your view violate roe v. wade? absolutely, which is the reason why we are suing the state of missouri. what they re doing is unconstitutional, it is illegal, it s dangerous, and it s part of a trend that we re seeing across the country with anti-women s
