Kern County agreed to fully comply with SB 1383 by March of 2024. If they are not fully compliant by that date, the county is subject to fines of up to $10,000 per day.
At a public information session held Thursday in Lake Isabella, dozens of residents showed up to ask questions and voice frustration over new fee that would be added to their property tax.
According to KCPW, if the state's mandates under SB 1383 are not implemented by July 1, the state could start penalizing Kern County for every month of noncompliance going back to January 2022.
