Six people involved in a land dispute with Brigade 70 in Kampong Speu province’s Oral district have requested the provincial court to reschedule the first hearing from January 27 to February 14 as they have not yet hired a defence lawyer.
The Kratie Provincial Court investigating judge has placed Kratie town Military Police commander Tep Huy and his deputy Kim Sovannarith in pre-trial detention on charges of torture, aggravated brutality and aggravated intentional violence for assaulting two 12-year-old cousins who worked for Huy as housemaids.
Officials from the Apsara National Authority (ANA), a state body tasked with managing the Angkor Archaeological Park, are working with the local authorities to identify and arrest a suspect who felled a rosewood tree in the Angkor resort area on May 31. ANA officials said the offender sneaked into the area in Trapeang Ses village in Siem Reap town’s Kokchak commune at night.

Though restrictions have been eased in the capital and across much of the country, the provincial administrations in Koh Kong, Takeo, Svay Rieng and Battambang have continued to implement stricter health measures by closing some villages and extending the closure of their markets.
The Koh Kong Provincial Hall has decided to lock some villages in Sre Ambel district due to it being a Covid-19 hotspot.
Governor Phouthong Mithona has also temporarily restricted entry and exit from Sre Ambel village until further notice to prevent the spread of Covid-19 to other areas.
In an announcement, she said the decision to close these villages came after 23 people had tested positive for Covid-19 on May 22 and 23.

Bus company shut in Battambang, Pailin after driver tests positive for Covid

Battambang and Pailin provincial authorities decided to temporarily close branches of the transport company Virak Buntham Express after a driver tested positive for Covid-19.
In a notice on May 2, Battambang provincial governor Nguon Ratanak decided to shut down three of the company’s branches in Ou Da Leu village of Kamrieng district’s Boeung Raing commune; Phnum Touch village of Phnom Proek district’s Pichr Chenda commune; and Trapeang pralit village in Sampov Loun district’s Santepheap commune.
