The Latest: CT bans semitrailers on some roads for 12 hours

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont announced Wednesday he is banning tractor trailer and tandem trailers from all limited access highways, beginning at 9 p.m. due to the severe winter snow storm.
The Democrat said the ban will end at 9 a.m. Thursday. Neighboring states are implementing similar bans.
The governor said the ban won’t affect the state’s orders of COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer, which have already arrived.
The state is planning to allow up to five nursing homes to begin vaccinating staff and residents on Friday, in advance of the planning Monday rollout.

Response to winter storm in Massachusetts complicated by COVID

Add snow removal to the list of things disrupted or at least complicated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Massachusetts is under a winter storm warning as state and municipal workers prepare for at least a foot of snow across much of the state. But the state likely will have some driver shortages during the storm, Transportation Secretary Stephanie Pollack said.
She estimates the state will have 90% of its staff available as some people are isolating after contracting COVID-19 or are awaiting test results. The fast pace of snowfall projected by the National Weather Service could lead to slower snow treatment, but she said she doesn’t expect any geographic gaps in snow removal.
