Maui restaurant group Na Hoaloha ‘Ekolu recently received the No Ka Oi Highway Hui Award from the state Department of Transportation Highways Division-Maui District in recognition of the group’s longtime participation in the department’s Adopt-A-Highway program and the many volunteers who helped pick up trash along a 2-mile stretch of Honoapiilani Highway in Olowalu.
Na Hoaloha ‘Ekolu is the parent company of Old Lahaina Luau, Star Noodle, Aloha Mixed Plate and Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop.
Kawika Freitas, director of public and cultural relations for Na Hoaloha ‘Ekolu, said the company’s participation in community programs like Adopt-A-Highway is an expression of its Hawaiian values.

A relatively small but highly dedicated group has received the No Ka Oi Highway Hui Award in recognition for its sustained volunteerism for the Adopt-A-Highway program.
Managed and administered by the state Department of Transportation Highways Division-Maui District, Adopt-A-Highway is a public service program that partners with community organizations and businesses to keep Maui’s environment clean. The Hana Lava Tube Group has been an active Adopt-A-Highway participant since 2005.
