Large packaged foods and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies said operations in Manipur have been stalled, with some even moving their employees out of the strife-hit state, executives of half a dozen firms said. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged the state police to investigate how the army can be removed completely from the state by withdrawing the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). The general has said that while insurgency has been significantly defeated, the police must remain vigilant in preventing ex-militants from turning back to violence.
