a new tool allows emergency room doctors to see exactly what a patient s condition is from the back of an ambulance racing to the hospital. for young children, it could be a life saver. cnn s gary tuchman explains in today s age of discovery. reporter: headed for cincinnati s children s hospital is an ambulance loaded with high def video conference technology so that what you see here inside the vehicle is what doctors see in a hospital s critical care unit, like in this practice room. part of a pilot program, this technology is currently being used in the transport of premature infants and incubators. for first time, physicians can see what they need to see with their own eyes and trust their own judgment that the care that they re directing is right for that patient. reporter: a transport av computer is mounted on to the patient s stretcher. it has two cameras attached to it. it has a camera that sort of hovers over above on a swing arm.
