April 1, 2021 9:32 am The new €70 million Transitional LEADER Programme has opened for applications as of today (Thursday, April 1), according to the Irish Local Development Network (ILDN). LEADER provides rural communities across the European Union with the resources to enable local partners to actively engage and direct the local development of their area, through community-led local development. Commenting on the opening of the LEADER programme for applications, ILDN CEO Joe Saunders said: “The opening of the €70 million LEADER Transitional Programme is timely as we begin to emerge from the Covid-19 restrictions. LEADER will give local communities and enterprises an opportunity to respond to the emerging challenges for their areas and will support measures that provide employment and job creation throughout rural Ireland.

Leader funding that supports private enterprises and community groups in rural areas given major boost 22nd December 2020 - Damien English TD Damien English Meath West TD and Minister of state has said he is thrilled to see that details have just been announced of the Transitional LEADER Programme which will come into effect in April 2021. €20million will be made available under this programme to cover both new projects and admin costs of the Local Action Groups such as Meath LEADER. This transitional programme will bridge the gap between the wind-up of the current 2014-2020 LEADER programme and the start of the next EU programme which is not likely to commence until 2023. Kilkenny to get €700,000 plus in Transitional LEADER Programme funding Reporter:   ); Kilkenny is to receive €708,325 in Transitional LEADER Programme funding, money which will bridge the gap between EU LEADER programming periods, local Fine Gael TD, John Paul Phelan, has confirmed. The funding for the pro-active and regionally-focused Kilkenny LEADER Programme team is part of a €20 million support nation-wide to support locally-led rural development and will allow LEADER in Kilkenny to keep running the many county-wide initiatives already underway. “The next LEADER programme is not likely to commence until 2023 due to delays at EU level. We can’t let all the good work done by LEADER here in Kilkenny stop or pause and this funding will help LEADER help communities throughout Kilkenny.
