Chairman of Heirs Holdings, Nigeria’s leading multinational group with interests across the financial, Energy, Hospitality, Healthcare and other sectors in many countries of the world, Tony Elumelu, in this interview bares his mind on public interest issues around the group and the Nigerian economy. Excerpt.
In 2010, you left your position as the GMD/CEO of UBA and then ventured into serial entrepreneurship. Today, you run Heirs Holdings, Transcorp, you are into oil and gas, the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) and many more. How do you manage to juggle all of these and what are the challenges you face in terms of managing all your businesses?

In the African corporate community, the name Tony Elumelu rings loud as one of the top five multi-sectorial big players in the continent’s economy. Originally a banker, Elumelu, who plays big in the Nigerian economy, regional economies and notable in the global terrain, is breaking grounds in sectors unrelated to his core skills as a banker. He holds sway at the commanding height of various sectors including banking, hospitality, power, oil and gas, health and philanthropy. In this interview with Arise News, the broadcast arm of THISDAY Newspapers, Elumelu, who is the President of Heirs Holding Ltd and Chairman of United Bank for Africa Plc, speaks on a wide range of issues in the economy, investment, power sector, entrepreneurship, amongst others. The Board of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (Transcorp), Nigeria’s largest listed conglomerate and a leading investor in the energy sector, has announced the appointment of Mr. Victor Famuyibo and Mallam Ahmadu Sambo to its board of directors.
The appointment became effective from April 22, 2021.
The group, in a statement at the weekend, also formally announced the appointment of two new members of its executive management team: Mr. Vincent Ozoude, as MD/CEO of Trans-Afam Power Limited and Mr. Peter Ikenga, as MD/CEO of Transcorp Energy Limited.
Famuyibo joined the board with deep experience and knowledge in human resources and personnel management. He worked with multinational companies such as UAC Nigeria, Heineken International and Nigerian Breweries Plc, where he led numerous teams to drive strong employee engagement, the statement added.
